Paros sits at the heart of the Cyclades, close to Naxos and well connected to Athens and the wider Aegean. Its capital, Parikia, is one of the region's main ferry hubs, so boats and catamarans come and go throughout the day, making the island an easy base for hopping between neighbours. Behind Parikia's harbour lie classic Cycladic lanes of whitewashed walls and blue shutters, along with the venerable Panagia Ekatontapiliani church. To the north, Naoussa has grown from a fishing village into a lively harbour town of narrow alleys, waterfront tavernas and small boats. On the east coast, Golden Beach and its neighbours catch the strong summer wind that funnels through the strait between Paros and Naxos, making this a favoured spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Inland, the mountain village of Lefkes offers cooler air and marble-paved paths, a reminder that Paros was long famous for its fine white marble. The island balances easy connections with genuine character, and its mix of sheltered and breezy beaches means there is somewhere to swim whatever the wind is doing.

How do I get to Paros?
Paros is served by frequent ferries and catamarans, with Parikia acting as a major Cycladic hub linked to Piraeus, Athens's port, and to many other islands. There is also a small airport with domestic flights via Athens. Because of its central position, Paros is one of the easiest islands to reach and to island-hop from.
Is Paros a good base for island-hopping?
Very much so. Parikia's harbour is a key ferry crossroads, with daily connections in season to Naxos, Mykonos, Santorini and other islands. That makes Paros a practical home base from which to take day trips or multi-island routes, returning each evening to your own rental.
Where should I go for windsurfing or calmer swimming?
The east coast around Golden Beach catches the strong summer wind funnelling through the Paros-Naxos strait, making it a well-known windsurfing and kitesurfing area. If you prefer calmer water, look to more sheltered coves and the bays near Naoussa and Parikia, which are gentler on breezy days.
