Koh Phi Phi is the small, spectacular island group in Thailand's Andaman Sea, sitting between Phuket and Krabi and reached only by boat. Life centres on Phi Phi Don, the single inhabited island, where a slim sandy isthmus called Tonsai Village joins two green headlands and looks out over the wide curve of Loh Dalum Bay. There are no cars or motorbikes here — you move around on foot, by bicycle or by longtail boat — which gives the island an easy, walkable rhythm by day and a famously lively bar and fire-show scene by night. Just south lies uninhabited Phi Phi Leh, home to Maya Bay, the cliff-wrapped cove made famous by the film The Beach and now protected as part of a marine national park. The waters around the islands are the main event: reefs full of colourful fish, snorkelling straight off the beaches, day boats to hidden lagoons and diving trips to renowned nearby sites. A short climb to the viewpoint rewards you with the classic postcard vista over the twin bays.

How do I get to Koh Phi Phi?
The island is reached only by boat. Ferries and speedboats run from both Phuket and Krabi, and the crossing takes roughly one and a half to two hours from Phuket, a little less from parts of Krabi. There is no airport on the island, so most visitors combine a mainland flight with a ferry. Check current departure times before you set out.
Are there cars or scooters on Koh Phi Phi?
No. Phi Phi Don has no motor vehicles at all, so you get around on foot, by bicycle or by longtail boat between the beaches. Tonsai Village and Loh Dalum are compact and walkable, and porters with hand carts move luggage. Pack light and wear shoes you can walk sandy paths in.
Can I visit Maya Bay?
Maya Bay is on uninhabited Phi Phi Leh and is visited by day trip rather than by staying there. It sits within a marine national park, so access can be restricted at times to protect the reef and a park entry fee usually applies.
