Is Ibiza only about clubbing?
Not at all. The nightlife is real and concentrated mainly around San Antonio, Playa d'en Bossa and Ibiza Town, but much of the island is calm and rural. Santa Eulalia on the east coast is known as a family-friendly, quieter base, and the north around Sant Joan and Portinatx is wild, bohemian and low-key. Choosing where you stay largely decides whether your Ibiza is loud or laid-back.
When is the best time to visit Ibiza?
Late spring and early autumn tend to offer the best balance. May to mid-June and September into early October usually bring warm, swimmable seas with fewer crowds than the July-August peak, when the island is busiest and prices are highest. If nightlife is your priority, note that the big clubs generally run their season through the warmer months and hold closing parties around October. Winter is quiet, with many venues closed, but good for a calm, scenic stay. Check current opening dates as these vary year to year.
Do I need a car in Ibiza?
A car is very useful. Many of the best coves and rural corners are hard to reach by bus, and renting a car gives you the freedom to move between beaches, towns and the north on your own schedule. Buses connect the main towns affordably, and a night Discobus links the party areas in summer, but for exploring the whole island most visitors find a hire car worthwhile. Book early for peak season, when demand is high.
Can I take a day trip to Formentera?
Yes, and it is one of the most popular excursions. Fast ferries cross from Ibiza Town, and some sail directly from Playa d'en Bossa, reaching La Savina port on Formentera in roughly half an hour to under an hour depending on the service. Sailings are frequent in season, so a day trip to Formentera's famously clear water and long white beaches is easy. Confirm timetables and the last return sailing before you go.
Which areas suit families or a quieter stay?
Santa Eulalia is the classic choice for families and quieter holidays, with a walkable promenade, marina and gentle beaches. The north around Portinatx and Sant Joan is more remote and rural, good for nature, coves and switching off. Es Vedra and Cala d'Hort in the south-west draw people for sunsets and scenery rather than nightlife. San Antonio and Playa d'en Bossa are livelier and better suited to those who want the party scene close by.
