The difference
A host wants $1,161. Here’s what it costs.
The host keeps their full price. The displayed total includes a 3.9% cost contribution for Stripe payment fees and refunds. BookNoFees earns nothing from it.
Take a simple example: an owner who wants to earn $1,161 for a week.
| What each platform takes | Airbnb | Booking.com | BookNoFees |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platform commission | 15.5% | 15%–25% | 0% |
| Payment processing & protection | included | contract-specific | 3.9% |
| Owner keepson a $1,161 listing | $981 | $871–$987 | $1,161 |
| Guest paysfor $1,161 to reach the owner | $1,374 | $1,366–$1,548 | $1,207 |
Over 18 weeks let, that is more than $2,903 a year in this example — money that stays with the guest or reaches the owner.
Rates checked in September 2026. Under its single-fee structure, Airbnb charges most hosts 15.5%; Airbnb says other hosts typically pay between 14% and 16%. Exceptions depend on country and account type. Booking.com sets the commission rate in each accommodation agreement, and visibility programmes may increase it. This worked example uses a possible range of 15% to 25%. If Booking.com facilitates payment, the applicable payment terms and transaction cost are contract-specific. Our 3.9% cost contribution is included in the displayed total and contributes towards Stripe payment fees and refunds. BookNoFees earns nothing from it. Nothing is added at checkout and nothing is deducted from the owner. Fee models can change, so please check each platform’s current terms. About Maldives
Staying in Maldives
The Maldives is a nation of low-lying coral islands strung across the Indian Ocean, grouped into ring-shaped atolls that enclose calm turquoise lagoons. For years the classic image was the private resort island, where a single property occupies its own strip of sand and overwater villas sit on stilts above the reef. That world still exists, but travellers now have a second way in: the local guesthouse islands, opened to tourism in recent years, where you stay in a small inn within a working island community and pay a fraction of resort prices. Maafushi is the best known of these, an easy speedboat hop from the capital and a hub for diving, snorkelling and day trips to sandbanks. Malé, the compact and densely built capital, is where most journeys begin, at the international airport just across the water. Above and below the surface, the draw is the same everywhere: powder-soft beaches, warm shallow lagoons, drifting manta rays and whale sharks, and reefs alive with colour. Whether you want barefoot luxury or a budget-friendly island stay, the Maldives rewards slow days and long swims.

Vacation rentals in Maldives — FAQ
What is the difference between a resort island and a guesthouse island?
A resort island is a private island occupied by a single hotel, often with overwater villas and all-inclusive service. A guesthouse island is a local, inhabited island where small inns operate alongside the community. Guesthouses are generally far more affordable, while resorts offer seclusion and premium facilities. Both give you reef, lagoon and beach access.
How do I get around between the islands?
Most trips start at the international airport near Malé. From there you reach nearby islands by speedboat and public ferry, and more distant atolls by seaplane or domestic flight. Guesthouse islands such as Maafushi are typically reached by scheduled speedboat, while remote resorts usually arrange seaplane transfers. Confirm transfer times and schedules with your host before you travel.
When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
The Maldives is a tropical, year-round destination with two broad seasons: a drier season and a wetter, windier season. The drier months are the most popular for beach days and diving visibility, while the wetter season can bring shorter prices and fewer crowds. Conditions vary, so check current forecasts and the diving calendar for the marine life you hope to see.
What is there to do besides lying on the beach?
Diving and snorkelling are the headline activities, with reefs, drift dives and seasonal encounters with manta rays and whale sharks. You can also take sandbank picnics, sunset fishing trips, surf breaks, dolphin cruises and island-hopping day tours. On guesthouse islands, respect local customs, including dress guidelines away from designated tourist beaches.
How does booking direct on BookNoFees work here?
You can message the host before booking. For a booking request, Stripe first places a card hold for the full amount; the host has 48 hours to accept, and only then is the amount captured. Instant Book is charged immediately after Stripe confirms payment. Do not transfer the booking amount directly to the host. The displayed total already includes the 3.9% cost contribution for Stripe payment fees and refunds.
Why book direct instead of through a large platform?
BookNoFees deducts no commission from the amount set by the host. The displayed total includes a 3.9% cost contribution for Stripe payment fees and refunds, and BookNoFees earns nothing from it. Nothing is added at checkout.
